Boozie foods... 2 Replies

OK, so I like to make a couple simple cakes with booze in the mix.1. Whiskey punch cake. Take a lemon cake box mix, make as directed substituting half of the water with whiskey (oddly rye whiskey…Continue

Auchentochan (Brian) Triple wood 5 Replies

On of my favorite drams we encountered at WOWE 2009. I find the story long and complex. Not a harsh dram to be sure and the wood flavors are integral to the flavor profile but not overpowering. I'd…Continue

MacCallen Oak Select

The star of the 3DC grand tasting at GWW 2009. Complex, delicate and oakey (as the name would imply.) A classic Speyside dram. Good for cooler evenings with a cigar if you have a good one at hand. A…Continue

As promised, I blogged and posted the recap of our Whiskies of the World 2010 weekend. The post can be found here: http://www.3drunkencelts.com/events/wotw-events/the-gospels-accordi...

Enjoy!

'Twas indeed another stellar weekend where 3DC luck ran rampant. I hope to have a blog post up in the next week or so outlining all the dram tasting notes from Saturday night. Thank you Raz, Chang, Fergus, and everyone else who made it such an amazing weekend. Whiskies are only the excuse, friends are the reason!

Great times at WOWE 2010, not so much the event and the people. Made new friends and reconnected with old ones. Thanks Chang for being there and saving the day for Adrian too.

I have not tried either of them. Thanks for the tip!

Edradour is down that line of flavor profiles too. The Aberlour A'bunad too for that matter. Just in case you've not tried them...

I agree, Raz- the 18 year is delish. We have it on the shelf at my bar and I just LOVE to taste people on it who don't think they could like an Islay.

Ah, Bunnahabhain. The Islay that drinks like a highland. Try the 18. It's my favorite of theirs.

think i spelled Bunnahabbhain wrong... probabably still am. I just love how it is pronounced so differently than it is spelled, like so many of those decicious whiskys... "boon- haav-in "(for anyone who doesn't know). Wicked delish, and a great intro Islay for your guests. ;)

I love Highland Park 18 year from the Orkneys, the northenmost distillery in Scotland. It is so well balanced, with some peat but more pronounced flavours of sherry and a nice smokiness. Hope to afford some of their older whiskys in the future (and btw, the 12 year doesn't suck either). Also love the Bunnahabhain family- the only Islay to use spring water. Great for times when you want an Islay that is not one of the "big three." Saw a bottle of Springbank 30 year on a shelf in Newport for a grand. Any sponsors? What a dream that might be! And to think, Cambletown was looked down upon for so long due to their dealings with the US in the pathetic age of prohibition!! Hmmmph
