Annette Whitney New website to check out - Real Beer. com

http://www.realbeer.com/

Stumbled upon this when I was surfing to find the name of the song I saw in a recent Bud commercial (which of course I don't really remember because I've been drinking - doh!)...Anyway, Realbeer.com's first three links include Kegerators - homebrew - and alcohol content. I think this might be a site worth checking out!

Cheers!

Jerry Holland In Defense of Mixologists

Don't say "Hey, bartender!" to these people

In the elbow of Chinatown known as Doyers Street, "Bar Chef" Albert Trummer of Apotheke coats two champagne flutes in his homemade absinthe. The light is dim, an opera swells from the speaker system, and Trummer is positioned so that he is backlit by the kitchen window. The contents of the glass in his left hand explode in blue flame, and Trummer… Continue

Annette Whitney TV show about drinking

Hello all,
Just found a new fun show on Hulu (hulu.com) about drinking called "Three Sheets." The host is kind of a dork but he's entertaining.
Similar to "Thirsty Traveler" but with more of a "let's get drunk" attitude that one should appreciate.
Enjoy!

Jerry Holland Whisky on (Antarctic) Ice

Explorer Ernest Shackleton loved his Scotch whisky. And he left a stash at the bottom of the world.

By Emily Stone — Special to GlobalPost

CAPE ROYDS, Antarctica — This spit of black volcanic rock that juts out along the coast of Antarctica is an inhospitable place. Temperatures drop below -50 Fahrenheit and high winds cause blinding snowstorms. The only neighbors are a colony of penguins that squawk incessantly and leave a pungent scent in their wake.

But if… Continue

Jerry Holland Oldest Wine Auction Raises $7.5 Million on Demand for Burgundy

By Scott Reyburn

Nov. 16 (Bloomberg) -- The world’s oldest charity wine auction, held every year in France for the Hospices de Beaune, last night raised a hammer total of 5 million euros ($7.5 million) with fees, the second-highest in its 150-year history.

Demand was boosted for the new vintage when a record 802 barrels were offered from vineyards belonging to the hospital, founded in 1443, said Christie’s International.

The auction, organized for the fifth year… Continue

Jerry Holland Six Good American Gins

Gin has always been the province of the British, but some American distilleries hold their own. Clay Risen takes a look at US bottles worth tasting in the Atlantic.

* Seagram's Extra Dry: Yeah, it's a mass-market gin, but it's "easily the most drinkable as a straight sip, with a floral taste up front, then licorice and pine."

* Anchor Junipero: "Undistinguished, in a good way—no tricks or fancy flavor profiles, just a good, direct… Continue

Jerry Holland Don't Fear Sweet Wines

Americans shy away from sweet wines, and it's a shame, write Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher in their Wall Street Journal column. Times have changed, and some fine US bottles are out there. Some of their favorites:

* Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard Bunch Select Late Harvest Riesling 2006: "Clean, fresh, and tangy," with a light texture and rich taste. $50.

* Bonny Doon Vineyard 'Le Vol Des Anges' 2007 (Beeswax Vineyard, Arroyo Seco, Monterey County): Earthy and complex, with… Continue

Jerry Holland He Who Drinks More Gets More Exercise

Though it doesn't explain the persistence of beer guts, moderate and heavy drinkers tend to exercise more than those who keep their booze consumption to a minimum, a new study suggests. Using government health data, researchers found that heavy drinkers—defined as men who tallied some 76 drinks a month, 46 for women—exercised, on average, about 20 minutes more weekly, while moderate drinkers exercised some 10 minutes more per week.

Jerry Holland Multifaceted Chardonnay a Welcome Surprise

Chardonnay is ubiquitous, but the “countless weak versions,” especially in the $10 category, disappoint wine lovers, writes Eric Arnold in Forbes. Nevertheless, Americans gulped down about 60 million 9-liter cases in 2008. If you’re willing to beef up your budget and experiment a bit, you may be surprised at the variety of “styles and flavors—and there's joy to be found in discovering which suit your palate best.”

In a recent taste test, “it wasn’t until the third wine that anyone in… Continue
